(1.) According to Figure 1 on page 480 of your textbook, stress anxiety was the most widely reported problem of college students who visited a counseling center seeking help (Benton et al., 2003). In at least 5 well-written, complete sentences, describe 5 different reasons you think college students feel so stressed & anxious (if they aren’t different reasons, you will lose points).
(2.) In at least 5 well-written, complete sentences, explain why you would, or would not, recommend a student with high levels of stress & anxiety seek professional psychological help.
The journey of getting to college is fraught with difficulties, passing high school, getting a good gpa, getting admission into a college of choice, getting the pell grant, the fafsa loans, the text books, and finally a place to live. All these situations could be very stressful for some, depending on their academic and financial situation. Once in college students begin to experience different kinds of stressors that create anxiety.
1. The first stressor is studying, learning and knowing the subject, for students to whom learning comes easy, this is not an issue, for visual and verbal learners, this will mean getting to class in time, it will also mean getting enough sleep so that they can be receptive. For other learners it means getting involved in the class activities.
2. The second stressor is doing the assignments, while this depends on the individual, some do this the first thing when they get home and have it ready, and this does not stress them. However, there are those that procrastinate, by the time they begin the assignment, they realize that it will need more time than they anticipated, in preparation, research and actually doing the assignment, they also begin to worry about the quality of their assignment. It is late by the time they are done, they are tired, and do not get enough sleep.
