BULLYING ESSAY

Bullying in schools is a worldwide problem that can have bad consequences and it doesn't matter what the bully is doing, who and what age they are and why they are doing it because it is all just bullying. Bullying can also have negative consequences for both bullies and their victims for the rest of their lives.
Bullying is a type of direct behaviors such as teasing, taunting, threatening, hitting and stealing that are done by one or more students against a victim. In addition to direct attacks, bullying may also be more indirect methods such as everybody just stop talking and being friends with a kid. While boys typically engage in direct bullying methods, girls who bully are more likely to indirect bullying such as spreading rumors.
Teenage years are not the only times when people may encounter violent behavior. Aggressive behavior and bullying are even more normal in elementary school than in junior and senior high schools. "Various reports and studies have established that approximately 20% of students are either bullied regularly or are initiators of bullying behavior." (Banks). "Being a victim is the most common in the second grade, and the likelihood of being bullied decreases each year after that." (DeHaan) Bullies in the elementary school are more likely to pick on children younger and often out number their victim. Bullying is often very physical in nature, with open attacks of aggression being the most common. Boys are more likely to be doing the bullying and boys and girls are equally likely to be victims.
While direct physical assault seems to decrease with age, verbal abuse remains constant. School size, racial differences and the school setting do not seem to be big factors in thought of the occurrence of bullying.
