Introduction
This study was conducted in order to enhance the learning of the students by giving them a practical experience of how statistical studies are done. Basically, the students were told to pick up any population of their choice and study it with respect to a certain variable. To draw conclusions about populations from samples, we used inferential statistics, which enabled us to determine our population’s characteristics by directly observing only a portion (or sample) of the population. We obtained a sample rather than a complete enumeration (a census) of the population for many reasons. There were six main reasons for sampling instead of doing a census. These were: economy, timeliness, the large size of our population, inaccessibility of some of the population, destructiveness of the observation and accuracy.
We did this study in order to find out if boys in IBA are of the same height as that of girls. Our area of study was limited to the premises of IBA. The hypothesis we checked was that boys and girls in IBA are of the same height.
