South Africa
Histories economical trials and tribulations, have been accompanied by war, depression, and even death. In the case of Africa, all of these things can be attributed. The Apartheid Act in South Africa during the 1940’s instilled a since of fear, and confusion into the African natives. The Apartheid’s original stance was to implement legal segregation amongst the African natives. But threw H. Marais, South Africa, Limits to Change, there seems to be another point of view. Marais looks at apartheid in South Africa threw more of a class and economical lenses(Marais 2).
Marais takes a very bold, and almost radical stance in the case of Apartheid saying that the ANC is not all it seems to be, and that the ANC has adopted colonist stances on many issues, including making the working class African second behind the Afrikaners. The ANC which stands for African National Congress, has been spearheaded by Nelson Mandela for the past sixty years(wiki). Nelson Mandela is and will always be looked at as the symbol of peace in Africa(allafrica). With all of Mandela’s accolades, the question still remains, “what does the ANC really represent and what effect has it had on post-apartheid South Africa?’
Since 1923 the ANC has taken a hard stance on the rights of Blacks in South Africa. The organization whish was originally founded by John Dube, along with a group of poets, scholars, and politicians, has held the ideal that it is the “disciplined force of the left” has made many strives to end segregation, threw protest, marches, and written agendas(wiki). Marais does not talk down on ANC, but presents a different view of the organizations influence during and after apartheid(Marais 26). The ANC, wants to embrace all the whites, colored, Afrikaners, and blacks, no matter what class.
