Introduction

Mr. Sanjay Sharma is a Project Manager in a reputed CMMi Level 5 Company. Today he is feeling distressed, as management has taken up his project to assess the improvement. He is having nightmares; he knows there have been schedule and cost slippage. The word that is making his life difficult is ‘Productivity’. He started analyzing the tickets that were assigned to the resources under him. He found that ‘5’ resources in a team of 10 were solving tickets at a time interval much more than the estimated time. When he analyzed the resource’s background, he came to know that all the resources are having excellent technical background and has won many awards while they were working in other projects. So what is the root cause of the decrease in productivity that have been happening to some of the best resources in the company. Is it because they are having some personal problems that are creeping into their mind or is it lack of coordination that is happening between the team members. Whichever the reason is, Mr. Sharma has to act quick. He has to give a reason to the management within the next 1 month; he has to show the steps that have been taken to improve the overall productivity, But How? A question that can make the best of best managers turn the color of their black hair to grey.

In an era of tight budgets and increased outsourcing, getting a good measure of an organization’s productivity is a persistent management concern. Unfortunately, experience shows that no single productivity measure applies in all situations for all purposes. Instead, organizations must craft productivity measures appropriate to their processes and information needs.
