I did my field observation in the dominating coffee chain Starbucks. I conducted my research here because, I wanted to know what kind of people would support such a conglomeration of a company also to see if any of the "hip" people would be there or would they still be located at the sort of underground cafés.
What I found was something completely different. I found that a variety of people went there. But, the people that went there went there for a specific reason. It seemed as if they went there to get something out of being in the environment.
My research was conducted during two specific time periods. One was during the regular school day for children (November 16, 2005 1:30p.m.-3:00p.m.) during a time that High school young adults couldn't factor in to my equation. The other observation time was during a time when I figured the younger crowd of high school people would be there (November 18, 2005 7:00 p.m. - 9:00p.m.) This specific address of where I did my observation is 2980 Greenwood Dr. Janesville WI. 53546.
There wasn't much of a problem of sitting there for two hours at a time. Some people were there before me and were still there after I left. I just kept buying coffee and observing what was going on. I didn't ask permission to sit there for that period of time because, I think that there used to people coming there to go somewhere quite for extensive periods of time just to get some work done. Besides if a lot of people were like me and just kept buying coffee to sit there why would they turn down the good business.
The Setting
