Abstract
The “quality performance” is the foundation stone of all types of industries. The growth of an industry depends on its performance quality. Therefore, checking out the performance quality of an industry is something which is inevitable. Many researchers have given their contribution in the field of Quality namely, Deming who gave the famous the PDCA Cycle and the 14 principles to get to quality, Juran approach to cross-functional management, Ishikawa with is Fish bone Diagram / Cause and Effect Diagram and many others. "Six Sigma" is a process of quality measurement which helps the organization in the improvement of their quality. The purpose and the origin of the process six sigma is the result of need for business improvement through customer satisfaction, reduced costs, production of high quality products with less defects and increased profits. Hence the fundamental aim of the six sigma methodology is the implementation of a systematically based measurement strategy focusing the improvement process. Within this improvement aspects the six sigma methodology includes the responsibilities of the improving the team, helping the team in identifying the process, the defects and the corresponding measurements. Six Sigma and other quality tools have been adopted by many well known companies around the world for controlling and enhancing quality of their products and services.
This paper tries to explain the statistical measurement and explains how Six Sigma approach is applied in a business.
