(1) Who is Edward de Bono, and how is his work significant in the field of leadership?
Edward de Bono is a psychologist, physician and writer; he is most famous for his concept on lateral thinking and six hats thinking. He is a well educated and gifted thinker who has spent much of his life teaching individuals, organizations, corporations, and government bodies how to think efficiently. The concept, lateral thinking, was first introduced in his book, The Use of Lateral Thinking, published in 1967. He later developed the concept of Six Hats thinking which was published in his book, The Six Thinking Hats, in 1985. Edward de Bono has also made other contributions to the world by making available his theories on thinking, such as Parallel thinking and Smart Thinking. His work has made a significant impact in the field of leadership as his concepts are targeted at anyone wishing to become an innovative thinker in a team oriented environment. The teachings of Edward de Bono is geared towards helping individuals think clearly, creatively, & objectively, guiding their thought process to make better decision and create new ideas. Business leaders can and have used his theories to achieve success through effective management skills, and have improved in areas in which they lack.
