The rebel flag battle flag of the south is under debate currently because what it symbolizes, do you personally find the flag a symbol of hatred or history?
I feel that in no way is the confederate flag a symbol of hatred. Indeed it was before the civil war, and still is today in some places, however in the "politically correct" society that we have today, it is a symbol of history, a symbol of how far this country has come to be the United States of America. I am aware of the fact that "the flag was used by people involved in the Ku Klux Klan (KKK)", however members of the infamous clan also feel that the white community are the only people who should "walk the earth". I also understand the NAACP's statement that, "if the city of Crestview doesn't respect the feelings of some people, some people ought not to respect the feelings of the city". I believe that the statement is a little extreme in stating that they shouldn't respect the city and government, however if you could understand what their corporation is for, National Association for the Advancement of Colored People, they simply want to put the past behind us all and make blacks equal to whites. That is an unfeasible act to some people, however in today's society, the two cultures are entwined so much that a few people not in agreement will have members of both cultures fighting against them in order to get their way. I found an interesting fact while reading about the flag, and it stated that slavery thrived under the United States flag from 1776 to 1865, while under the Confederate flag for only four years. The birth of both flags had little or nothing to do with slavery. Both flags saw their origin during a time of slavery. This helps to assist with the fact that the flag is a symbol of history and not slavery.
If the NAACP wants to get rid of one icon of slavery, why not try to get rid of them all, including the American Flag. Speaking about the rebel flag, The Associated...
