Should school uniform be compulsory?
School uniform is a standard set of clothes which is worn by a group of people. However, more and more people say that it may not be a must for students to wear a school uniform. People have debated this issue, many times. We should get to know both the advantages and disadvantages of wearing a school uniform.
School uniform is an identification for students. It is a form of respect to the school. There are some advantages of wearing a school uniform compulsorily.
Firstly, wearing a school uniform can save the students’ money and time on choosing what to wear to school because there is no need to purchase different clothing to wear. Also, they don't need to decide what to wear in the morning. It is a place for study, not a place for fashion.
Secondly, wearing a school uniform can prevent mental comparisons between students. They will not be envious of other classmates clothing e.g expensive brand named or beautiful clothing because all the students must wear the same clothing, there are no comparisons. Once you wear a school uniform and enter the school, all students will become equal.
Thirdly, school uniform shows which school you belong to and it looks: neat, tidy and professional. It shows the tidiness and discipline of the school and decreases discrimination among peers. Therefore, wearing school uniform is good for students.
On the contrary, there are voices from the students saying that they want more freedom, by wearing casual clothing. There are some disadvantages of wearing school uniform compulsorily.

Firstly, you wear comfortable and fashionable clothing that expresses your personality because school uniform is a uniform style. School uniform is rigid, and all the people look the same and cannot express their personality. It would inhibit the students feelings of self-expression.
Secondly, if you don't wear school uniform, you will spend too much money buying different clothes to wear to school every day. Casual clothing is our necessities in our life, we have to buy them. Therefore, we should be able to wear it at school. Therefore, they don't need to spend extra money to buy a school uniform, to wear.
Thirdly, students can wear any style and colour that they prefer. They can make themselves look beautiful and fashionable. It is good for students to show their individuality and it makes students feel more self-confident. It also fills the whole school, with colour, instead of wearing a school uniform that seems very rigid, and boring.
As a conclusion, coins have two different sides, similar to the opposing opinions about having a compulsory school uniform. There are some advantages and disadvantages about wearing school uniform. Although, wearing a school uniform is a better choice for students, a uniform can represent the identification of students, the respect to the school and also the respect of being a student. A school is a place for students to learn, to study. Students should concentrate on their studies, not what they are wearing.

Schools usually expect students to wear the uniform during school hours, while traveling to and from school, and when engaged in school activities out of school hours. One of the chief benefits of school uniforms, say proponents, is that they make schools safer. Uniforms are said to reduce gang influence, minimize violence by reducing some sources of conflict, and help to identify trespassers. School uniforms would not work out as well as not having them, people would all look the same, and no one would be happy except for the few who enjoy not having creativity.
