Defined Sexual Health
- refers to the many factors that impact sexual function and reproduction. These include a variety of physical, mental and emotional factors. Disorders that effect any of these factors can impact a person's physical and emotional, as well as his or her relationship and self image.

FACTS ON SEXUAL HEALTH AROUNF THE WORLD

1. Every year three million teens- about 1 in 4 million sexually active teens get a Sexually Transmitted Disease.
2. Chlamydia is more common among teens than older women and men.
3. Teens have higher rates of gonorrhea than do sexually active men and women aged 20-44.
4. Some studies show that up to 15% of sexually transmitted diseases of sexually active teenage women are infected with the human papillomavirus (HPV) that is linked to cervical cancer.

SEXUAL ACTIVITY AMONG TEENS VARIES BY REGION

Premarital sex is common and appears to be on the rise in all parts of the world.

1. Youths degree of sexual intercourse experience: Studies of female youth suggest that 2- 11% of Asian women have had sexual intercourse by age 18.
2. 12-44% of Latin American women by age 16.
3. 45-52% of sub-Saharan African women by age 19.


ADOLESCENT PREGNANCY AND CHILD BEARING IS A MAJOR CONCERN
