The commercial sexual exploitation of children through various countries is a growing trend, particularly in the United States. This occurs when a child is sexually abused by an adult or the adult receives some sort of payment for the child. The child is treated as a sexual “toy” or a commercial product. These children are normally sold for a number of things mainly for sexual exploitation or child pornography. The ramifications of this act are irreparable damage to their mental and physical health of the children involved and emotional anguish for the families from they are taken. Child pornography, the prostitution of children, and sex tourism have all emerged as sources of financial gains in the international market.
Child Pornography, one of the largest markets of the child trade, is a visual depiction such as a drawing, cartoon, sculpture, painting, photograph, film, video, or computer-generated image or picture that contains a child engaging in sexually explicit activities. Different states have different views on what a “child” is; most consider a child to anyone under 18, although some states consider a child to be a minor if they are younger than 14, 16, or 17. Due to new advances in the internet and online resources, Child Pornography has become easier and more manageable to create and redistribute. The impact that the home computer and internet have had on the growth of Child Pornography is immeasurable.
People who possess this kind of Child Pornography are normally pedophiles or hebephiles. These are people who are infatuated with young children and have a sexual attraction to them.
