I attended the hotelier seminar on Wednesday. The speaker who was invited was Mr. Vince Reyes from Peninsula Hotel. My first impression of him was that he was a well-groomed man. He was also able to answer all of the questions brought out to him with such ease and confidence. I admire him for that since those are one of the vital characteristics that are important in the hospitality industry.
The word he used most during the whole talk was “Family” which is what the peninsula group thinks of themselves. They don’t just see each other as colleagues, but more of a family. They treat each other equally, no matter what position they are in. He said that we should treat our customers well but that we should treat our colleagues ten times better. And I have to agree with him since they are the people who we will be working with. I mean come on who would want to see someone they hate every time they go to work. He also told us that in the hospitality industry we will have to sacrifice a lot, and that there will be a lot of competition. When vacations are present that is when we will have the most amount of work. And turns out the saying “The customer is always right” doesn’t always apply, cause the truth is sometimes the customer is really at fault; But we also have to find a solution in order for us to prevail the truth yet not anger our guest. In the hospitality industry everything must be perfect, well as long as it exceeds the guest’s expectations its good enough. Most people will think that working at the hospitality industry is easy, but the truth is that its not. It is actually more complicated than they think it is. But it is a great job since you learn something new everyday, and you get to meet all kinds of people from all over the world. What we should always remember to do even during our bad days is to smile and not one that is obviously fake, since that is somewhat the trademark of the hospitality industry, and something that...
