Schizophrenia

This disease is very depressing to families because it affects loved ones emotions, making it difficult for schizophrenic patients to function properly.
The word schizophrenia translates roughly into “split mind” (Bower). It is referred to this because the brain has on imbalance which causes it to malfunction. This malfunction may cause a disturbance which has a tendency to make another personality to appear in a person. This disorder is essentially a disturbance in thought process (Bower).
Schizophrenia is a major health problem that affects about one person in one-hundred at some point in life (Bunch). This disease will affect about two-million Americans each year ("Schizophrenia Research..."). Anyone can develop this major health problem, although it is usually inherited. Usually the disease will appear more often in overcrowded area. (Bunch; “Schizophrenia Research...") Although the causes of schizophrenia are unknown, research shows that that brain malfunctions in a person carrying the disease. The frontal lobe is critical to problem solving, insights, and high level response. In schizophrenia the perturbation lead to difficulty in planning actions and organizing thoughts.
