The purpose of this report is an analysis of the performance of the SAS Institute as well as the reasons behind such performances. Thus, in a first part, we are going to evaluate the condition of the firm based on qualitative and quantitative data analysis. Since its creation in 1976 SAS institute became one of the most successful software firms in the industry. The company is privately owned, and started programming statistical analysis software, but today this segment represents only 2% of SAS’s sales. Also, the company has now an international scope as it has 68 offices around the world while it has 40 sales offices in the US. Furthermore, their international presence is reinforced by the fact that they have licensed distributor in other countries. Thus, SAS became over the years a truly global firm with a broad view on the software industry. Indeed, according to Forbes 97% of fortune 100 companies use SAS to provide them with software as do more than 80% of the Fortune 500 companies. In addition, SAS counts more than 8,000 customers and 31,000 customer sites throughout the world.
Furthermore, SAS’s unique way of providing software through renewable annual licensing ensures steady revenues as long as customers are satisfied with their products. In fact, SAS’s renewal rate among its customers is 98% which shows the exceptional potential of the company in understanding and satisfying customers’ needs.
