Same Sex Marriage

Marriage has been a sacred commitment between two people ever since the beginning of time. The two major religions; Christian and Hindu faiths, are similar in some aspects yet, both expresses different views on marriage. They have different belief and value systems which are then applied to marriage and its ceremonies. The marriage traditions from the two religions are then passed down to future generations through various methods. The two religions authorities guide their followers to lead an ideal life through marriage. According to these religions, marriage is between a male and female, however, in contemporary society, same sex marriage is a controversial issue.

Purity is a very significant within the Christian society. The Christian religion is a monotheist tradition. Before marriage, the bride and the groom are expected to be wholesome and pure. They have a party before the wedding day to celebrate the last day of being a bachelor or bacherlorette. The wedding ceremony takes place in a church, with God as their witness, and their family and close friends also there to help them celebrate this day. An exchange of wedding rings by the bride and groom symbolises the unity of the couple and the everlasting love that they share. It is a lifelong union of a man and woman. Divorce is seen as less than ideal. Some Christians believe that divorce is not recognised by God.
In Christian dominated societies or countries, the marriage traditions are passed through society, family and school. In a Christian or catholic schools, they teach their students about the marriage traditions through religion classes. Families pass down rituals through tradition. The local library and book shops should contain books on traditional wedding ceremonies. The greatest authority from the Christian religion is God because Christians believe that God is the ultimate being and creator of the universe.
