A critique of “It takes family” by Rick Santorum
Dealing with the current issues of marriage and family people are being to determine their own views of what they consider a traditional or nuclear family to. In this critique “It Takes Family: Conservatism and the Common Good” Rick Santorum is a graduate of the university of Pittsburg, and was elected into US house of representatives of the Senate at the age of 32. He is known for is fight for social reform of welfare. He served on the Senate Agriculture, Banking, Housing, and Urban Affairs. Here describes his views as well full support of the traditional American family. This nuclear family consist of a husband, wife, and children all living in a loving and stable environment, being actively engaged in business, their community, their religion ,and other individuals. (Santorum, 89). Santorum argues that the families that function the best have a two- parent home and live in the better communities. Lastly, he stresses his points on how the media is corrupting the America society by allowing sex before marriage, easy divorces, and gay and legalized lesbian marriage.
Rick Santorum directly states that crime is goes along hand in hand with family structure. Using commonsense one can use their own experiences to know that this true, Santorum states, but here is proof. According to study of more than six thousand young men ages 14 to 22 who grew up without both parents ended up in jail, than boys who did. He also found another study that shown living in a broken home has a greater affect of bringing about more problems by 10-18% within the communities.
He stands that living in good community will bring about good behavior from the children, “Good communities are more able to benefit from the value of healthy families, and healthy families are more able to benefit from the value of good communities (88).
