Riordan Manufacturing was started by Dr. Riordan a professor of chemistry in 1991 and the name started out as Riordan Plastics, Inc. Riordan is a global plastics manufacturing company that has about 550 employees, Riordans annual earnings project to be about $46 million.
Riordan has manufacturing plants in Georgia, Michigan, California, and in China. In 1993 is when the company expanded and that is when it bought out the plant in Albany, Georgia. In 2000 Riordan opened up its operations in China, once this was opened Riordan Moved from Michigan to China and the plant in Michigan reorganized and started manufacturing custom plastic parts.
Items that Riordan manufactures are: Plastic beverage containers which are manufactured in Albany, Georgia, custom plastic parts which are manufactured in Pontiac, Michigan and plastic fan parts are manufactured in Hangzhou, China. Riordan also has a research and development department and that is done at the corporate headquarters in San Jose California. Riordan major customers are: automotive parts manufacturer, aircraft manufacturers, the Department of Defense, beverage makers and bottlers, and appliance manufactures. (Riordan 2003).
Riordan’s Mission
Riordan mission does not just focus on one thing but it breaks up their mission into four different parts, those parts are:
1. Focus – Riordans mission on Focus is Six Sigma, industry leaders in using polymer materials to provide solutions to customer challenges, and the research and development department will remain the industry leaders in identifying industry trends.
2. Customer Relationships – Riordan strives to be a solution provider for the customers and not part of the customer challenge. Riordan wants to have long term relationships with customers and they will do this by maintaining rigorous quality controls, innovative solutions, responsive attitudes and reasonable prices.
