1 Introduction
With the advent of the 21st century, Virtual Organizations such as Riordan Manufacturing, Inc. are becoming more common as the wave of technology spreads out over the World Wide Web. Riordan Manufacturing, Inc., formerly Riordan Plastics, Inc., was founded in 1991 by Dr. Riordan, a professor of chemistry, in Albany, GA. Initially, the company’s main focus was on research and the licensing of its existing patents until Dr. Riordan received a venture capital which he used to purchase a fan manufacturing plant in Pontiac, MI. In the same year, the company’s name changed to what is known today as Riordan Manufacturing, Inc. A couple of years later, in 1993, the company expanded its horizons with a new facility for the production of plastic beverage containers which is currently located in Albany, GA. In 2000, Dr. Riordan expanded his operations to China including the entire fan manufacturing operations which was originally located in Pontiac, MI. This paper/narrative will address Riordan Manufacturing’s service request for a more sophisticated, state-of-the art, information systems technology within its Human Resources department which will encompass all plant locations.
