Introduction
Riordan Manufacturing is a global plastics manufacturer of plastic in their Albany and Georgia plants, and customized plastic parts in their Hangzhou, China location. Research and development is performed at their San Jose, California location. Riordan’s main clients include aircraft manufacturers, the US Department of Defense, and automotive parts manufacturers. Riordan Manufacturing has requested a Business-to-Business (B2B) web application for ordering and tracking orders for materials from their vendors via the Internet. We have been tasked with the creation of a database that will work in concert with the web application.
Overview
Historically data concerning Riordan Manufacturing vendors has existed in a variety of systems and media. Along with current up to date data in realtime, the new database will be able to house historical purchase data. The system will be designed to integrate with other in-house systems that store details concerning products and sales for each client. By looking forward and planning the design to be able to someday integrating with all information, Riordan Manufacturing will be able to easily keep track of all data for their company in systems that are able to share data and communicate efficiently.
The desired outcome will be as follows:
• A complete description of the database plan
• Discussion of the purpose of, and the type of businesses that will be utilizing, the database
• Project Plan
• E-R Diagrams
• A description of the normalization of the database
• UML diagrams
• Database Administration plan, which includes a database recovery plan
The desired system may include but is not limited to the ability to maintain data concerning the following:
• Purchases (including sales tax and shipping)
• Accounts Payables (for reconciliation with accounting department)
• Vendors (including contact and billing data)
