INTRODUCTION:
A relationship between the production volume and the input resources leads to the concept of “productivity”. Nowadays business enterprises want to plan their future strategies from past performance. There are number of such measures of comparison, namely, “productivity, “profitability”, “rate of return”, etc.. to illustrate past performance. All these indicators are some sort of direct or indirect relationships between input and output factors. But none of these measures is able to determine or evaluate the overall performance of an enterprise.
Productivity is one of the measures for improving performance. It can be increased by increasing the output from each unit of input.
Concept of Productivity:

For any manufacturing enterprise, the inputs resources are: -- Men, Money, Materials, Machinery, Time, Energy, space etc… The output is the manufactured goods or services.
Therefore, to understand the productivity effects when motivation is the factor, we will first need to understand the theory of motivation.
Productivity in its broadest sense may be defined as:
Productivity ═ Output ÷ Input.
MOTIVATION
Motivation can be defined as a condition that is initiated by a physiological or psychological deficiency or need of an individual, which causes the individual to behave in a certain manner in order to achieve a particular goal or incentive.
It determines:
1) Direction of behavior in an organization;
2) The effort or how hard people work;
3) The persistence displayed in meeting goals.
