RESPECT

I remember growing in Puerto Rico with my parents, respect was their biggest concern. They taught me that respect was very important. Now days, I can see the many people don't feel the same way. Respect is becoming harder to give and to get.
There are some many factors contributing to this change in our society, mainly manners, which are rapidly declining in many areas of society.
Josh Trepanier, wrote, "The place where kids are most disrespectful is usually the place where they learn to be that way-at home". Kids are so smart, they would emulate what they see or hear. If kids see violent behavior and experience any lack of respect, that's exactly what they will show. For example, fights between parents must be minimized, if any arguments should occurred, they should be dealt in their kids absence. Kids would always do what they see and will say what they hear. Their manners would not be adequate if they are raised in this kind of environment.
Having good manners is more than saying thank you on a daily basis. Having good manners is a mode of comportment. It simply requires to show consideration in relation to somebody or something. Another reason why manners are declining is because teachers no longer have the authority to properly deal with disrespectful students. When I was growing up, if I was disrespectful to my teacher or a student, my teacher would hit me with her ruler. My teacher made sure that I wouldn't do it again by either hitting me or by punishing me to the fullest extent. Now days, teachers are scared of even raising their voice to students, because they might get fired...
