Throughout the years, human resources has had a major makeover and although is has been around for many years, it is just within the last 25-30 years that human resources has become important to society. Whatever it is called, personnel, staffing office, or HR, people are a key fact in which a business must have in order for their company to flourish moreover a business cannot survive without them. Staffing includes attracting and hiring talented people, as well as developing, appraising, and rewarding them through performance management and training programs. As an organization grows and expands, the human resources department must know what the business needs are in order to recruit more staff and should carefully develop a plan to achieve this. Recruitment is the process of encouraging, inducing or influencing applicants to apply for a certain vacant position. Whenever there are vacancies, it is necessary to find a qualified person which can be very costly if it is not done correct; nevertheless, no company can escape it. In this assignment I will discuss the role of human resources as it pertains to employee recruitment, retention, and development.
In reality, it is the job of human resource management to recruit, develop and maintain quality staff in order to meet the organization’s goals successfully. If the business has grown, more staff is needed to carry out vacant jobs and new positions. Also, if any existing employees has left due to retirement, dismissal or other reasons, these vacancies also need to be filled; whether through internal promotion and/or a new employee must be hired to replace that previous position. In order to perform successfully and remain competitive, a business must have a good recruitment and selection team within their human resource department.
