Reaction Between John Steinbeck's Of Mice And Men
The reaction of George to the death of Curley’s wife was the decision to capture and lock up Lennie, for there wasn’t a way out of the situation. I presume that their friendship was held together by the idea of their own piece of land. When George saw Curley’s wife dead body laying on the floor, he automatically knew who had caused it. “Candy said, “What done it?” George looked coldly at him. “Ain’t you got any idear?” he asked.” Candy asked him what were they going to do. His response shocked me since I thought George was all about protecting Lennie. “George was a long time in answering. “Guess . . . we gotta tell the . . . guys. I guess we gotta get ’im an’ lock ’im up. We can’t let ’im get away.”.” From his perspective there wasn’t a way out. …show more content…
They got to bring him in, I guess. They ain’t no way out.” He wasn’t wrong, there isn’t actually a way out of the mess Lennie had caused. They had nowhere else to run away to. Lennie fueled George’s hope of accomplishing the acquirement of a little place. “He usta like to hear about it so much I got thinking maybe we would.” Sadly, they were unable to obtain it. In my opinion, George lost all hope of a better future when he found out they weren’t getting the piece of land. Their only escape from the cruel world was that, and when that failed, they didn’t have another plan. The closest thing where Lennie would be safe and couldn’t cause trouble was jail. If they had been able to be given the land; George would’ve been able to protect Lennie. In my point of view, the grounds is what held their friendship

One may want to say that what George did, that is shooting Lennie, was either the right or wrong decision. To put it into such a black and white decision, right or wrong, good or bad, compassion or unjustification, cannot fully describe the choice that George made. You cannot truly say if what he did was right or not, but simply that he had to. What George did was something that his moral compass told him must be done. How can you say that they would have gotten away if George had done otherwise, that they would have escaped and made it to another ranch and continued on with their lives. Chances are they would not get away, chances are Lennie would have died either way, creating a situation even more cataclysmic on Georges…

When Lennie and George were younger, George had no knowledge of Lennie’s condition and it almost caused Lennie’s death. Lennie’s problem is mostly not because of his condition, but because people misunderstand his condition and therefore, misjudge him. George had watched over Lennie for an unknown time but still was unsure on how to deal with his condition. This leads to the death of Curley’s wife. Curley’s wife talks to Lennie after he kills the puppy and lets Lennie touch her hair. She sternly tells Lennie to stop, which makes him nervous. Not wanting to get in trouble, Lennie covers her mouth to prevent her from yelling and eventually breaks her neck. While this is going on Lennie says “ Please don’t do that.” referring to her yells, “George’ll be mad.” (page 91) This shows that George made Lennie think that if he misbehaved again he would get into trouble. This upset Lennie and is the reason he panicked when he realized he had displeased Curley’s wife. Therefore, George’s misjudgment lead to the emotional problem Lennie encountered after Curley’s wife’s death, and eventually, Lennie’s…

Curley would make sure that Lennie suffered, I am confident when I say that I believe Curley would make Lennie suffer. In the story “Of Mice and Men” George was always there for Lennie whenever he got into trouble. George stayed with Lennie when he first got into trouble by feeling a girl’s dress to hard. George immediately took Lennie to a place where he wouldn’t get caught; if George wasn’t there Lennie would have gotten beaten, arrested or hung. He was a true friend that was willing to risk his reputation and partly dedicate his life to take care of Lennie. This was not only because he promised Lennie’s Aunt Clara but also because over the years that he’d been with Lennie he had a growing friendship and he’s always there for Lennie because he is a true friend. There was also another time when Lennie accidently killed Curley’s wife and he waited for George in the brush by Salinas River like he promised and George had to kill Lennie painlessly because if he hadn’t Curley and the other worker’s at the ranch would have tortured him and caused him and extremely painful death. If George had left Lennie because he was in trouble Lennie would have died a painful death but George stuck with him and helped him till the end.…
