Preliminary results
I will gather some preliminary results to produce better final results; this will create a better accuracy in my final results as I will take my preliminary results and create a range of results where I will omit results that do not fit.
Time (minutes) Gas Produced (ml) HCl (ml) Water (ml) CaCl2 (grams)
1 25 25 0 1
1 1 20 5 1
1 0 20 5 3
1 8 10 15 1
1 45 20 5 1
1 20 15 10 1
1 25 25 0 1
1 1 5 20 1
1 8 10 15 3

1 20 10 15 2
By looking at these results I found that It is better to use one gram of calcium chloride as it would be wasteful to use two. The amount of acid that I am using would not react with all the calcium chloride so the acid to calcium chloride ratio I am using is fine.
That ratio being: 1 gram of CaCl² to 25 ml of HCl to water ratio.
And the time period is also suitable as the reaction is complete after around 50 seconds.
To collect my final results I will use a conical flask which is where the reaction will be taking place the conical flask will have a bail arm to a rubber tube which will be connected to a gas syringe. This will also make my results accurate as all the gas produced will be collected.
I know that the key factor that will effect the reaction will be concentration as a reaction takes place when two elements/particles collide so therefore if the acid is more concentrated there is a greater chance of the particles of HCl will collide with the CaCl² particles as there are more of them to collide in one area. From this I predict that the higher concentration the faster the reaction as particles of HCl will come into contact with particles of CaCl² quicker as there is a greater chance of it.
Having to not change the concentration of the batch of HCl I am using I will take some and put it in a beaker and measure out the amount I need I...
