    A. Company History, Development and GrowthVerizon Wireless aspires for manageable development as a wide market leader in wireless services as well as for dominance in major wireless service markets. In both situations, the Verizon Wireless services will have to do critical roles. Verizon Wireless has the capability to establish its dominance in wireless service markets normally through acquisition of other powerful wireless service companies and their services, which are then integrated into a new, bigger organization. Giving training to its workers, enhancing the organizational functions, and the development of fresh innovations then establishes the positions of the different Verizon Wireless services. Omnitel entered as a cell phone operator in the Italian market in December 2000. The company introduced its service with plans that were very similar to the incumbent service provider, TIM. Omnitel’s perceived competitive edge was customer service focused on the areas of personal touch, low waiting time and one-stop calling for all questions. With this perceived advantage, Omnitel was targeting high value customers who wanted a better quality customer service than TIM what could provide. In the 6 months after the launch of their service, Omnitel was able to acquire 180,000 customers which accounted for a disappointing 4% market share.…

    Telefonica

Spain’s Telefonica had the chance to start expanding globally thanked to two significant changes in the economic and political environment: privatization and deregulation. Telefonica was a typical state-owned national telecommunication monopoly when being established and then, the Spanish government privatized it and deregulated the Spanish telecommunications market. It means that Telefonica from a state-owned company became privately controlled. Government also reduced rules to open telecommunications market for more competition. For these reasons, Telefonica had a sharp reduction in the workforce, rapid adoption of new technology and focused on profits and shareholder value and also started expanding globally for growth.…

Until the 1990s the government-controlled public company known since May 1988 as Telefónica de España, S.A. (Telefónica), was the dominant player in the Spanish telecommunications industry. Like many of its international counterparts, however, Telefónica was fully privatized in 1997 and became known as Telefónica S.A. the following year when basic telephony in Spain was deregulated. By 2001, Telefónica S.A. operated as the leading telecommunications concern in the Spanish and Portuguese-speaking regions of the globe. Acting as a parent company for ten major subsidiary companies, including the likes of Telefónica de España, Telefónica Latinoamericana, Telefónica Móviles S.A., Terra Lycos S.A., Telefónica DataCorp S.A., Atento, and Admira, the company had business interests in fixed telephony, mobile telephony, Internet content and services, audiovisual media content, and various other telecommunications and e-commerce-related services.…

This report describes the Business model developed by African Communications Group (ACG) in Tanzania during the mid‐1990s, based on an analysis of the customers (WHO), the product offered (WHAT) and the ways used to get the market (HOW). Finally, the strategies and tactics adopted by the company are presented, showing how these tree elements converge in the same direction. By 1992, ACG bet for Tanzania, mainly because ACG was a young American company trying to develop a new market and this country doesn’t call the attention of the large telecom players. Tanzania had the highest backlog in Africa for telephone service, which was delivered by the State. With less than 80,000 telephone lines for a population of 27 million, the ratio of phones per person in the capital was around 1/100 and in rural areas 1/2,000. With an economy based on agriculture in rural areas, the main consumers of telephone services were the business people, who had to pay excessive fares. Even though the country presents several difficulties, the opportunity to develop a new platform of telecom services was interesting considering that by 1995, the demand for telephone services was 500,000 and the main public locations didn’t have phones. Furthermore, the demand for international calls (tourists, expatriates, business travellers) was considerable and unsatisfied. In addition, for other services as paging, ACG anticipated a base of 10,000 subscribers. In order to get this market, ACG considered an innovative pay phone system that didn’t require copper wire between outstations and ACG’s central platform; the use of wireless radio was a new concept that could be adapted to other markets and allowed ACG to operate on only one connection to TTCL, which operated the country’s wireline telephone system. ACG pay phones were…
