Racism: In 1968, Now in 2008

Martin Luther King Jr. led a The March on Washington on August 28, 1968 at the Lincoln Memorial in Washington D.C. This march was for all races of people to get along and that no is or should one to be separated by color of there skin. According to his “I have a Dream” speech he said, “this will be the day when all of God's children will be able to sing with new meaning: My country 'tis of thee, sweet land of liberty, of thee I sing. Land where my fathers died, land of the Pilgrim's pride, from every mountainside, let freedom ring!” This is how he wanted this day and age of young people coming up, the so called “Generation Q”, so we wouldn’t have to struggle as much as they did in the sixties. This is why he spoke up for many black around the country so we wouldn’t have to put up with this in the future years such as 2008. Yet we see racism all around, everywhere we go people are judged. There is racism everyday in America. We witnessed racism during hurricane Katrina and during the fight of the Jena 6. Racism is a belief that race is the primary determinant of human traits and capacities and that racial differences produce and inherent superiority of a particular race. After the struggles that many black leaders and Martin Luther King went through so this wouldn’t be happening but it’s still very alive.


Racism is the belief that race accounts for differences in human character or ability and that a particular race is superior to others.
