A quote is: to repeat (a passage, phrase, etc.) from a book, speech, or the like, as by way of authority, illustration, etc.
In other words a quote means to repeat a phrase or an excerpt from someone else's work, usually giving them credit for it. When someone uses someone else's work without giving them credit it is known as plagiarism. When someone plagiarizes they can be fined or worse, go to jail. Quotes are used by countless numbers of people for many different reasons. Sometimes people use quotes in their own work, other times people use quotes to explain a certain meaning to others.
"Failure is only the opportunity to begin again more intelligently", said by Henry Ford. Henry Ford was the founder of the Ford motor company. As a businessman he must have had some failures in his career, but only so that he could make the company better. This quote means that failure is just a way to make things better in your life. If you never failed in anything you would never know how not to fail. Many people believe that failure means that they can never do better. But however, failure is a good opportunity to learn your mistakes and fix them.
"Progress always involves risks. You can't steal second and keep your foot on first", said by Frederick Wilcox. This was very well spoken. What this quote means is that it's okay to take risks. You never know what can happen. Life would be very boring if no one took risks. Bill Gates, founder of Microsoft, took a big risk to make that company. He dropped out of Harvard to sell his microchip and get his business started. Now he's the richest man in the world. Taking risks make life much more exciting. The second part of his quote is basically self explanatory. You can't expect to get something and not do something to get it. In order to get somewhere in life, sometimes you have to take some risks.
