Purification Of Mined Copper
Randi Lindgren Per.1 2/20/09 Purification of mined Copper (Nail Lab Day 2) Purification of mined Copper the copper leach solution, so that the copper can have high electrical currency” (www.energymanagertraining.com). When this process is finished, the concentrated copper solution is then diluted in sulfuric acid electrolytic cells to be turned into copper plates. When the copper solution is diluted and turned into copper plates, they are then turned into copper wires that are then used by us in our everyday life. Before all of this is able to happen, the copper must be derived from its original state and then to its final state which is completely purified copper. The first step is to blow up the sulfide and oxide ores and then suppress them into walnut sized pieces. When the pieces are crushed, they are then revolved in a very large cylindrical tank that makes it into a powder. When this has happened, the powder is directed to leaching tanks and causes the powder to become a liquid-like mixture that is about 15% copper and all the waste is removed and the water used to do that is recycled. The left over earth that contains the copper oxides are transferred back to the leaching tanks or any surrounding terrain. After the copper has been accumulated, it is transformed into copper cathodes one of two ways; either by extracting and electrowinning or blending and electrolytic refining.
