Market Introduction
Products in market introduction incorporate new ideas, have low sales, and have low costumer awareness. The Amazon Kindle is a software and hardware platform developed by Amazon.com subsidiary Lab126 for reading e-books and other digital media. It was launched in November 2007. It is currently the only product of its type on the market. Amazon has not released any definite sales numbers but some analyst’s estimate around 750,000 units has been sold since launch. Many analysts are comparing it to the IPod’s initial launch, suggesting Amazon may sell $750,000,000 worth of Kindle’s by 2010. The Kindle could change the way people read books in the future.
E-Prescribing (e-Rx) is a medical practitioner’s patient-specific clinical and economic information, for consenting patients to prescribe the most medically appropriate and cost affective prescription at the point of care. In 2006 it was estimated that only 16,000 of 611,000 physicians and office-based clinicians that are permitted to write prescriptions were using e-Rx Systems. The government has recently started pushing the use of the E-prescribing. Today they believe that about 20% of all prescriptions are done by e-Rx systems. E-Rx would eliminate paper, phone, and fax prescriptions. E-Rx will help reduce the risk of medication errors associated with poor handwriting, illegible faxes, and wrong keystrokes. It will make prescribing medications a safer and more efficient process.
