Problem-solving is a major issue within business. There are always problems that arise in corporations such as financial issues, personnel issues, partnerships, mergers, acquisitions, etc. Some of these dilemmas require a significant amount of research and collecting of data for statistical interpretation in order to determine the optimal solution. The trend toward complexity has increased the risk associated with business decisions, making it more important to have a sound information base (Cooper & Schindler, 2003).
Situation Analysis
USA World Bank (UWB) is a major bank with branch locations nationwide and abroad. Presently, UWB is looking for a new product to introduce to its current consumers and small businesses in order to further expand its market share. Though new products roll-outs have been successful overall, they’ve been primarily defined within the United States (University of Phoenix, 2007, Scenario: USA World Bank, pg. 1).
Recently, UWB conducted a study in which they looked at the potential market for a proposed credit card. The card will work like a frequent flier program, where customers can earn rewards as a result of their purchases by UWB partnerships with airlines, hotels, and retailers (University of Phoenix, 2007, Scenario: USA World Bank, pg. 2). The results of a study performed by an outside agency; stated the credit card could be successful however this data is questionable because there is not clear understanding of the methodology and the statistics used to perform the study.
