You need to think this through - just what do you want to accomplish in the next five years? Where do you see yourself being employed? What salary do you see yourself making?

Essay-2 Analysis:
What are your short-term and long-term career goals? How do your professional experiences relate to these goals? Why do you want an MBA from Berkeley at this point in your career? (1000 word maximum)
1. A Standard Goals question.  These questions are very difficult to write, because most of the applicants fit the curve exactly in the same way as other.
o Ex:  Currently 5 years work experience in XXX field, then MBA, then Consulting like McKinsey, BCG etc., and after that starting your own company. We are not saying that this structure is wrong, but this is what most of the applicants write.  This shows your clarity of thought process and the clear rationale behind doing an MBA.  If you can’t answer this question properly, then you need to think the fundamental question ‘Why MBA?’
2. You should have a clear goal in short term (Say 2years post MBA) and a long term goal (say 10 years from now).  These goals should sync with your current professional experience, where you honed some good skills.  Use these skills as levers, and MBA as a stepping stone, you should fulfill your goals.
3. Avoid taking the standard goals style of answering.  Use very clear focus.  Even if you say Consulting, you should pointedly say what kind of consulting, what expertise you have, how much you will learn in MBA and then add those levers for building a successful career Post MBA.  Don’t give loose statements or generic in nature.
4. If you take out your name in the essay and add someone else’s name, the essay should fail :-) That means it should be highly customized and personalized.  Admission committee should get a buy in about your focus on why MBA and what Berkeley can offer you to help in reaching your goal.
