Introduction
Global Communications is a leading communications company that has found itself in a managerial communications dilemma. They need to expand their product line to keep up within their ever changing industry. However, the management team has lost sight of common business practice and have made poor decisions that are about to create detrimental outcomes unless the resort back to basic business practices. By examining the current issues facing Global Communications (GC) and by using generic benchmarking tools, the management at GC is even more determined to set new goals, open greater markets and to become a profitable global leader within their industry.
Situation Analysis: Issue and Opportunity Identification
The communications market is flooded with competition and Global Communications has found itself in a bad situation. Since the market is over loaded, consumers have no confidence in the telecommunication industry because they are all trying to outdo one another. This is causing a depreciated market and stock values are crashing to new lows, which is causing panic by GC’s Shareholders. Since so many communications companies are offering the same services, industry saturation is a large part of the problem. Global Communications has also found that its profits are being impacted creating an even more volatile issue as they are losing consumers to lower cost providers. Global Communications needs to align itself with another close related industry in a manner that drives costs down, exposes them to a wider and reinvigorated customer base thus expanding their market. They currently have an opportunity to form an alliance with a satellite provider, which by combining their efforts could expand their client base by providing packaged services like video, telephone communication, broadband and anytime anywhere internet access for a competitive fee, which other communications...
