Powhatan, A Monarchial King
A monarchial king gets its crown passed down by the king before him. “Powhatan was a leader who got his power from war, marriage and trade of goods” (Townsend). Powhatan was a leader who protected his tribes by going into war when there was a threat from newcomers or neighbors. A Monarchial king would do the same to protect his people from enemies. Powhatan welcomed newcomers only if the newcomers would greet him with goods and would trade while living in the same land.
