In reading the case study, there are several dependencies that exist for Michael. His work dependencies consist of his friend Albert Joffroy, whom apparently has an influence over Michael. He put doubt into Michael but simply power of suggestion. Another work dependency is Michaels CEO, Pierre Hoffman. Michael does a good job for Pierre yet Pierre wants Michael to move to China. Michael is dependent on Pierre for company advancement.
Michael's family is dependency for Michael also. Michael needs to be considerate of his wife and her career as well as the lives of his children. Michael's wife took a lesser career so that Michael could advance and she could be there for the children. Would a move to China be the family's best interest?
Michael's colleagues did not demonstrate legitimate political behavior in the case study. Danielle is Michael's colleague and his direct competition for the promotion. Michael is assuming Danielle is playing office politics by her meetings with other colleagues and her trips to Paris, however Danielle is simply doing her job well.
Michael should consider the opportunity for his family to grow in culture. There are not many people that get the opportunity to live internationally and while the children are small, they will learn a new language and culture. Michael and his wife should start research on the possibilities of his wife's career.
There was a suggestion in the case study for Michael to put a limitation on the term in China as well as travel trips to the States and Paris. Although that suggestion has purpose, it may not be in the best interest of his family. Traveling away from home when the family was just moved to a foreign country where the family members do not know anyone could take its toile on the entire relationship of the family.
