(CNN) -- 400,000 people die prematurely every year from smoking. When we analyze the harm from drugs, there is no doubt that cigarettes are the worst.
They kill more people than cocaine, heroin, meth and all other illegal drugs combined.

More than 800,000 people are arrested every year for marijuana, the vast majority for possession, yet all the data from studies that compare the two substances show that cigarettes are more harmful to an individual's health.

Statistically, death directly from marijuana overdose is extremely rare. The CDC reports that between 1999 and 2007, there were 26 deaths with marijuana as an underlying cause, in the United States.

August 1, 2013:
Illinois is the 20th state, along with Washington, D.C., to legalize medical marijuana.

All Drugs:
We need to realize that drugs, from cigarettes to marijuana to alcohol, will always be consumed, whether they are legal or illegal. Although drugs have health consequences and dangers, making them illegal -- and keeping them illegal -- will only bring additional death and suffering.

WWJD?:
In times of the bible, priests, Jesus, and his disciples used anointing oil made from nine pounds of flowering cannabis tops, olive oil, and a variety of other herbs and spices in order to receive the "revelations of The Lord", which is noted on the book exodus. And the people were drenched in this oil. This recipe goes way back to 1450 BC. And it's how Jesus

Cigarettes are a mixture of the most dangerous substances for humans to consume and yet they are legal and mass produced so that everyone can smoke them. Marijuana on the other hand is nowhere nearly as harmful as cigarettes but is illegal and looked at as if it were far worse than cigarettes. It is long overdue that society recognizes the fact that marijuana is better for people than cigarettes by a mile. Cigarettes are extremely more addictive than marijuana, the usage patterns for marijuana cannot compare to cigarettes, and dozens of lethal chemicals are put into cigarettes whereas marijuana is a natural plant and doesn’t contain nearly as many chemicals.…

The drug generally isn't more harmful than alcohol or tobacco if used in moderation. Most doctors would agree that it's not very harmful if used in moderation. It's only when you abuse the drug that problems start to occur. But isn't abuse of almost any bad substance a problem? If you abuse alcohol, caffeine, cigarettes, or even pizza, health problems are sure to follow. Would you want the government limiting how much coffee you can drink or how much cheesecake you take in? Most doctors believe that marijuana is no more addictive that alcohol or tobacco.…

Marijuana will not only cause more people to become drug addicts, but it will harm their brains, lungs, and hearts. The cannabinoids in marijuana cause parts of the brain to function wrong. After smoking, a person will have trouble remembering what he or she was doing before he or she began. Smoking will also cause a 20-100 percent increase in their heart rate and an increased risk of a heart attack. Smokers will also be more inclined to have respiratory problems due to the amount of smoke that enters their lungs.…

Approximately 100 million Americans have tried marijuana at least once in their life. More than 25 million have smoked it in the last year. Cannabis is relatively safer than any other drugs such as cocaine or meth. It takes 800 joints to kill a person that's smoking marijuana; the cause of death would be carbon monoxide poisoning. Using cocaine or meth leads to addiction along with death in a short period of time. There are no recorded deaths as a result of cannabis over consumption. Not to mention, when it comes to using cannabis there are positive and negative outcomes. For example, marijuana is used for a variety of ailments and conditions including easing nausea and vomiting caused by chemotherapy, reducing eye pressure in glaucoma patients, and treating gastrointestinal illness. The main reason that marijuana should be legalized is that it is far less dangerous than alcohol. The government has the responsibility to regulate substances that cause significant harm to the public health. In 2006, the Center for Disease Control reported that excessive alcohol consumption was associated with approximately 75,000 deaths per year. Additionally, the CDC cited alcohol as a factor in approximately 41% of all deaths from motor vehicle crashes, while marijuana was held responsible for no motor vehicle crash related deaths (CDC 1). In an opinion handed down by Administrative Law Judge Francis L. Young, he states, “nearly all medicines have toxic, potentially lethal effects. But marijuana is not such a substance. There is no record in the extensive medical literature describing a proven, documented cannabis-induced fatality” (Young 56). Marijuana is not nearly as great a risk to public health as alcohol.…

"Don't say that marijuana is addictive or dangerous when it is neither" (Vidal). This statement is not a fact. Most people know that marijuana is addictive, especially if they have friends or loved ones who smoke marijuana regularly. The National Institute on Drug Use (NIDA) states that, "While not everyone who uses marijuana becomes addicted, when a user begins to seek out and take the drug compulsively, that person is said to be dependent or addicted to the drug. In 1995, 165,000 people entering drug treatment programs reported marijuana as their primary drug of abuse, showing they need help to stop using the drug" (http://www.nida.nih.gov/MarijBroch/Marijteenstxt.html). Also according to the National Institute on Drug Use marijuana use leads to other drug use. "Long-term studies of high school students and their patterns of drug use show that very few young people use other illegal drugs without first trying marijuana. For example, the risk of using cocaine is 104 times greater for those who have tried marijuana than for those who have never tried it. Using marijuana puts children and teens in contact with people who are users and sellers of other drugs. So there is more of a risk that a marijuana user will be exposed to and urged to try more drugs" (http://www.nida.nih.gov/MarijBroch/Marijteenstxt.html). So how can marijuana not be dangerous if it can lead to use of other drugs that are…

According to studies done by British experts, this is a true statement (Alcohol ranked most harmful drug, cbc.ca.com) Yes, the drug that so many Americans celebrate is considered more dangerous than cocaine, heroin, and undoubtedly, marijuana. Obviously, it would be safer to take a few shots of whiskey than to shoot up some heroin, but many people don’t even realize just how much of the chaos in this world is caused by those under the influence of alcohol. These researchers analyzed a number of factors including alcohol’s effect on the body, environmental damage caused by the drug, its damage on families and relationships, its economic impact (such as healthcare and prison care), and the amount of direct and indirect deaths caused by alcohol. The idea of drinking is so deeply embedded into our society that it will most likely never go away. Despite the fact that alcohol leads people to make poor decisions, is terrible for the human body and brain, makes the roads a risky place to drive, is very addictive, and can even split up families in some cases, the same people that enjoy getting drunk will say that marijuana is a dangerous drug. That is simply preposterous. The dangers and risks associated with alcohol consumption is so far greater than those associated with marijuana. While some like to claim that marijuana is a gateway drug, which in some cases is true, a lot of the time people who are…

In perspective of anti-marijuana politicians, marijuana is dangerous, ethically wrong, and generally unnecessary. But compared to tobacco and alcohol deaths and injuries that occur annually, marijuana is one of the least consequential drugs out there. With alcohol killing 400,000 people every year. That’s a little over the population of Tucson. With Tobacco killing over 100,000 people every year. There have been no reported deaths leading directly to the use of marijuana.…

Marijuana overdose cannot be physically possible for the simple fact that if for example someone smokes too much marijuana, they end up falling asleep instead of being considered deceased like the next day or something. According to the Claremont Graduate University professor Robert Gable, he said dying from marijuana poisoning cannot be possible because “smoking up to around one thousand times as much marijuana to kill someone as it can to get…

smoking debate picks up steam (no pun intended), the obvious correlations between the two debates can’t be ignored. Whether smoked through a bong or from a joint, marijuana produces smoke. The smoke comes from the organic matter of the leaf and bud, just as cigarette smoke is caused by the tobacco burning. The vapor caused by vaping is just that, vapor. The ingestion of nicotine or THC, without smoke, causes no known damage to the lungs of the ingester. Perhaps, when enough time has passed, vaping will begin to show lung damage similar to smoking, but for now, there is no rational debate, vaping is…
