In the past American politics were one sided; however, today there’s [Avoid the use of contractions in formal writing (e.g., Don't = do not)] a] a new brand. There used to be this theory that the upper echelon of society would benefit most from the politicians they elected. Politicians from the President of the United States or city elected officials would provide the attention to the needs of the rich, and most affluent. This process once complete, provided a trickle down effect, which resulted in the economic strain Americans are in today. This practice caused a sense of overall power to the wealthy. Power that as long as they had money, they could keep the brand of politician conducive to their interests.
