Persuasive Essay Gambling
You just received your whole paycheck for these last two weeks. You tell all of your buddies and decide to head to the casino, maybe double or even triple your advance. You decide to cut loose and have a couple of drink there as well. Why not right? You have more money right now than you will have for the next two weeks. You don't stop after what you should have and start seeing the world around you spin. You play blackjack and with no controll bet half of your money, only to lose it all to a stranger across the table. Gambling in Ohio should be banned because it isn't benefiting the economy any more, it's hurting lives, and blah blah blah blah blah.
I'm not sure if ohio in itself is declining like other states, but I do know in big gambling cities, they aren't making as much as they did. From the years 1997-2007 however, gambling was booming. Casinos alone were raking in over 40 billion in revenue a year. The gambling business alone generates more revenue than movies, spectator sports, theme parks, cruise ships and even recorded music combined. So you may ask, why is this bad? All of these peoples cash is really just flying out the door. One study found that only 5% of gamblers have an actually gambling disorder, but those people contribute to 25% of the casinos and state lotteries profits. These people are even contemplating suicide because of it! Another study anonymously gave out surveys to a group of gamblers with results saying that ⅔ of the participants saying that they have contemplated killing themselves, while 77% said that they wanted to die. With this new knowledge about gambling addiction, these people have a lot better chance of fixing their disorder and giving them a better quality of life in the future. Great news, however at the moment, gambling and the lottery is anywhere from restaurants to gas stations and it's very hard to not give
