Perhaps the most important realization that one can make in the request for their own personal growth is to understand that there is no single formula that can be defined to the path for personal success. Each personality type has a different idea of what it means to be successful. Knowing oneself is a common goal that will help to achieve personal success. Many individuals are hung up on someone else's idea of what it means to be successful. Little do they know that they, themselves, are unaware of what is truly important to them; knowing themselves. This concept is acceptable. It is completely normal. We all have areas of different goals and priorities, which mean that different activities and attitudes will make us feel good about ourselves. We also maintain different natural strengths and weaknesses that are a natural part of what could be looked upon as our inherited personality type. How then as individuals, can we feel successful in our lives? While most would argue that defining one's personality will only lead to another excuse for behavior or for categorizing people into boxes, traits of an individuals personality is proven to be helpful in the area of ones growth and self development. Because most individuals use each function with a varying amount of success and frequency, we are able to identify with the order of preference.

Understanding the Personality Types of Today
Most individuals have a natural instinctive mode of operation within each personality type and choose to function in all or some of those realms. In other words, one function is preferred over another. As they constantly learn and grow to improve their being, most of them are able to perform well in those realms. Therefore, the combining of the four preferences defines whether or not personality types function across the entire spectrum of the preferences or does it lean in one direction or the other within the four categories.
