Personal Narrative: San Diego
Back in the summer of 2013 my family was deciding on what vacation we should go on. It took us until July to finally decide where we wanted to go and we chose San Diego. At the time I didn’t know where San Diego was and frankly I thought we were going to Florida. When we got in the car and started to drive I was very confused on the fact we were not going to an airport. On the eight hour car ride there it took my family around an hour and a half to explain that we were not going to Florida. During the car trip the temperature outside got increasingly hotter as we drove away from our hometown. When we would look out the window of our car we would occasionally see a beautiful beach with hot, white sand and blue water, but most of the time we

If I don’t have homework for 4-5 days. I think I will go Lake Tahoe and rent a cabin for these nights. I will bring my camera and go there to take some photos. At night, I will stay in the cabin and look through the photos I take to find some good or bad aspect for each photo to improve my photography skill. In my experience, I don’t think I am reluctant to a specific identity. Houston is a very diverse city that people can find almost any type of music genre. In my community there are Hispanic and African American families. The music that is heard is of all kinds from “R&B, Pop music, Reggae, to Cumbia, Bachata and Regional Mexicano.” I have lived in the same community ever since I was born and in my opinion, I have grown up listening to the different types of music genres. This has shaped my identity to be open to different music genres and traditions.…

My mother had found a zoo online that was located in our city and decided that it would be fun to check it out. I had my doubts since I had always trusted well-known zoos such as the San Diego Zoo, but in the end I too decided it would be worth looking into. It was Saturday noon, when my mom, dad, and I left for the zoo. When we were halfway there we came upon a bumpy road scattered with rocks. My father told us that it was used in winter to keep the cars from slipping on the icy road. But I could only think of one thing at that moment, the immense headache which the constant bumping on the road brought me. I complained that we should’ve gone to the Humane Society. It was right near the house and there wasn’t a bumpy road we had to cross when…

My first stop was at the San Pedro Funky Fountain. This area was very relaxing and peaceful a great first stop to my scavenge hunt. Birds were chirping, kids were playing and to top it all of it was a bright sunny day. I also noticed that this fountain is also used as a swimming pool, How exciting! The scenery was really peaceful the park acted like a sort of oasis because you had San Antonio College and the highway on the right than more buildings/ construction on the left. I'm glad I was able to find this little piece of…

On a very cold winter of 2003, my parents and four children moved to California USA. Things drastically changed I found new friends left a lot of friends in Pakistan. In the being, I felt very sad about being alone here in America. But after two years I felt very comfortable in here. The new culture I was introduced to was very interesting for me. The place I went to had many Muslims in the same school already. It was a great transition for me. To get really comfortable in my skin and carry on with life. From the beginning, I was a quiet child and shy, I usually ended up in the back of the room to observe what is happening.…

On Saturday April 13, 2013 I was walking through the parking garage on the USAA campus in San Antonio, TX to start my 4 hour work shift, I began to go through the turnstile and seemingly startled awake a bat. This bat began to fly and squeal in fear. It darted at my head getting caught in my hair a couple times. I started to scream and flail my arms about trying to fend off the nocturnal flying mammal in fear. During what seemed to be forever I was able to unlock the turnstile and exit the entry way but not before rupturing two discs in my neck. This incident caused quite the turn of events in my life. I had been working for USAA for 3 years and truly loved it there. I also lived in a beautiful apartment with my mother and two children and…

I’ll never forget having to leave my friends and family behind and having to move across the country. It was the summer of 2008, and I was 10 years old at the time. The huge brown boxes, indicated the progressive yet subtle hints of our departure. I did not know why my father took the job in Washington D.C., but I did know that I resented him for it. However, it wasn’t long before I realized the move was for my own good. Back in California, my family lived in a tightly cramped two bedroom and one bathroom apartment. I soon realized moving to Virginia gave my family unspeakable opportunities, those that some take for granted, such as being able to live in a single family home. Coming to Virginia was similar to coming to a foreign country. The roads were different, the people were different, and the atmosphere was different; everything seemed foreign.…

It all started with this very simple question, “Do you want to move to Florida?” When my mom had asked that, we had just came back from our spring break vacation in Florida. We lived in Kentucky and my siblings and I went to St. Albert, I was in fifth grade. Of course when my mom said that my whole family thought it was a joke, so we all had said sure to the idea. About a week later, I forgot about the question, so after school one day my parents had told me and my siblings they had a surprise for us. Little did I know that we were actually moving to Florida.…
