Organizational Behaviour Termonology Paper

This paper will explain the key concepts and terminology of organizational behavior, organizational culture, diversity, communication, organizational effectiveness and efficiency, and organizational learning. I will also give examples of some of these concepts as they relate to my workplace.
Organizational behavior, or OB for short, is the study and the application of how individuals and groups behave in any given organization (Schermerhorn, Hunt & Osborn, 2005). It may be applied to any group of people working together to achieve a goal (Schermerhorn, Hunt &Osborn, 2005). It studies how people in groups interact and perform with each other, and is the understanding of how individuals and groups interact within the organization. The goal of OB is to understand and improve the workplace for the entire group, and also to motivate them want to strive to reach higher goals and achieve more satisfaction from their job.
Organizational culture is the personality of the organization. The culture is made up of the beliefs, values, and norms that influence the organization members and their behaviors (McNamara, 1999). It is what develops within the organization and guides the organizational members in their behavior and is sometimes referred to as corporate culture (Schermerhorn, Hunt & Osborn, 2005).
Organizational culture can be divided up into two groups, subcultures and countercultures. Subcultures are the groups of people who have beliefs and values that are consistent with the values of the organization. Countercultures are the groups of people whose beliefs are just the opposite of the organizations beliefs (Schermerhorn, Hunt & Osborn, 2005).
An example of organizational culture from my own workplace would be, the belief that we have an organizational reputation to uphold.
