Organizations today often encourage change to better the work environment. However, these changes often cause unwanted results which were not expected. This leads us to observe organizational behavior (OB) in hopes of minimizing unwanted and/or negative changes within an organization. Organizational behavior, organizational culture, diversity, communication, organizational effectiveness and efficiency, and organizational learning are all factors within an organization. These terms must first be defined in order to create a truly more efficient work environment.
Organizational behavior is better defined as the study and application of knowledge about how people, individuals, and groups act in an organization (nwlink, 2008). Organizational Behavior also known as (OB) is broken into many different ranges of topics. The elements of OB are key. As the elements of organizational behavior the base of major corporations rests within this topic. Elements of Organizational Behavior, in turn drives the organizational culture which is composed of the formal organization, informal organization, and the social environment (nwlink, 2008). The culture of organizations allows it to determine the type of leadership, communication, and group dynamics within the organization. This allows for the final outcome of performance, individual satisfaction, and personal growth and development. These are all key aspects to that can be combined to make up the framework of every organization.
So what is organizational culture? Organizational culture is seen by everyone in different manners. A few definitions can be given, but one gives me the true meaning of the words organizational culture, a set of understandings or meanings shared by a group of people that are largely tacit among members and are clearly relevant and distinctive to the particular group which are also passed on to new members (www.au.af..mil, 2008).
