Activity 1: Learning Styles Questionnaire

Based on the theories of Experiential Learning (Honey and Mumford, 1982), I completed a questionnaire that was designed to determine an individual’s preferred learning style. My scores were as follows:

Activist 6
Reflector 13
Theorist 11
Pragmatist 13

Activity 2: Understanding your Learning Styles

Based on the norms set up to interpret my scores, I had a low preference for Activist and a moderate preference for Reflector, Theorist and Pragmatist. I can identify with traits from all three styles, although my need to immediately test out new ideas and practical decision making leads towards the pragmatist theories.

Activity 3: Reflection on Learning Styles

I believe that I learn the most from the feedback I receive from others and the internal factors (Mullins, 2001) such as my level of motivation and memory. I also find that I need to see an obvious link between the subject matter and my immediate environment to want to learn, which would once again lead to a pragmatist style of experiential learning. I generally agree with my questionnaire results and can see the link between my behaviors and Honey et Mumfords’s (1982) learning styles.

I believe that observing character traits can help to measure personality. Based on my results from both activities I would not be suitable for careers in teaching or customer service and would not be successful in roles that were too casual or relaxed.
