Oprah Winfrey

Oprah Winfrey is known all over the world as the most influential person in the world. She has proven herself through her many charity events she has done. Also, with her giving and caring for other people has shown how much of a hero she is. Next to being called the most influential woman, she is also named the most powerful. Vanity Fair wrote, “Oprah Winfrey arguably has more influence on the culture than any university president, politician, or religious leader, except perhaps the Pope." Oprah has touched many hearts in what she has done.
In January of 2007, the Leadership Academy for Girls opened in Meyerton, South Africa. It was inspired by Oprah’s own humble beginnings and her disadvantaged background. She opened this academy for educational and leadership purposes for girls in South Africa with qualities that could change the world. This all began when Nelson Mandela asked Oprah to come and give educational help to young people in Africa. She then donated forty million dollars for the girls who were living in poverty so that they could have the education they needed. The all girls boarding school plans to offer students an academic curriculum based on national educational standards in South Africa that includes teachings in the English, Zulu and South Sotho languages. Oprah wants to make sure they all get the education they need to inspire the world.
Another one of Oprah’s charities was called the Angel Network. Its purpose is to inspire people to make a difference in the lives of others. The network also manages to have projects in under- served communities to provide educational purposes as well as letting people fulfill basic human needs. Also, it lets people regain their dignity. It is a non-profit organization and volunteer only type of network. This public charity was founded in 2000.
