Operator, how may I help you?

Working for a resort as a PBX operator is harder then you might think. You will have to learn how to answer multiple-lines, archive phone calls, and learn how to use a radio to contact several departments. Doing a job that has many different duties is very hard at first. With trial and error you will become proficient at any job.
When answering a multi-line phone, you have to remember which call came first, and you need to have patience with every person that calls(especially the ones who hate being on hold). You will also learn how to transfer calls to the right department, which also is very difficult because you have to remember each department’s extensions. You will learn to identify if it is an outside call or a call from the resort.
Archiving the phone calls is necessary, in order to charge the guest for the calls they made. The computer can only hold a certain amount of phone calls and after that it starts deleting them. To archive the phone call list you need to follow a step-by-step process that is written in a manual. If you skip a step then it will not work and the phone-call list will be lost forever.
You will learn how to operate a radio that enables you to contact different departments throughout the resort. You will also learn specific codes for specific actions. If you do not use the correct radio language, the resort can lose their radio license. Each department has its own channel on the radio, and codes. You will also need to log every time you use the radio by writing down which department you contacted and what the challenge was.
These are the main things you do as a PBX operator at a resort. Having to learn how to answer a multi-line phone, using a radio, and archiving phone calls are hard things that are a must to learn in order for you to do your duties. After you have mastered this, you are well on your way to becoming an expert secretary for any company you work...
