Oceanography

As I walked around, the first exhibit I attended was building an earthquake resistance house. I built my house in the form or a triangle at the base and connected it to a center. It almost looked like a triangle in 3-d. I tested my house however I didn't consider if it was tilted over what might have happened so it did collapse. Make you own earthquake was another exhibit that was interesting. This exhibit consisted of a large tree trunk with a hammer. There was a reader on the top to show how hard the tree trunk was struck.

The salt-water contest consisted of five cups of different salt consumption. The salt consumption varied from 0% to 60%. The easiest task was to determine the regular spring water. However the last four were very hard to determine because they almost taste the same. The next two I had to taste was a 5% and a 10% cup of salt diluted in water. These two were extremely hard to distinguish however, I tasted one after another and I was able to distinguish that one solution had a higher concentration of salt then the other. The last two contained 50% and 605 salts, these last two were extremely salty and I used my approach from before and I was able to identify all of the specimens.

I also attended a lecture about the devastating Tsunami and the hurricane that swept New Orleans. I was amazed to see that so many people died in the Tsunami from just be a spectator at the waterfront. It was sad to see so many people get wiped out in a matter of seconds. Also, I learned that the hurricane in New Orleans didn't actually cause the flooding it was the breaking down of the century old dams that did most of the damage. The dams caved in and most of the water rushed into New Orleans and damaged most of the city. I found the lecture to be insightful to many questions that I had about the destruction of New Orleans.
