The definition of a therapeutic or induced abortion is one resulting from measures taken to deliberately end a pregnancy, using medications (medical abortion) or surgery. However, although the definition sounds reasonably simple abortion is a very complex issue. Along with the decision for abortion comes along moral, political, and emotional turmoil for most, resulting in the final decision to go through with abortion. The profound emotional distress that women go through is extremely difficult. It is not easy making such a complex decision that will drastically change your life no matter what road you take. And for these reasons I am a big supporter of pro choice. Pro-choice is a movement whose sole purpose is to give women the right to choose whether to have an abortion or not. The reason why I believe this way is because this group is not a supporter for abortion but a supporter for the women making her own choice on what she wants to do with her life for the safety of her life.
Not too long ago a female speaker came to our class to speak to us about pro choice, and ironically she was at least twenty-five minutes late. When she walked into the room I looked at my clock and thought that she would never be able to present anything useful in such a short amount of time. However, I must admit I was absolutely wrong. Because she only had a short amount of time she did not beat around the bush to take up space, she got directly too the point. Before she spoke I was under the impression that pro-choice was the same as pro-abortion, and once again I was wrong. She informed the class that pro-choice is simply for the women to make her own decisions whether it was to have and abortion, give the child up for adoption, or keep the child; pro-choice is ultimately for the woman and her safety.
