If anyone asks me which country has the most beautiful landscape, I would definitely say that Norway is the one. If another asks me which country has the most beautiful cities, I would still say that Norway is the one. Located on the west part of the Scandinavian Peninsula, 70 percent of the terrain is made of rocky mountains and glacier valleys called “fjord”. Norway has a countless number of tourist attractions. From the masterpieces of the nature to the great works of the mankind, there is no single place you would want to miss out.
Oslo is the capital city of Norway. This city is the third largest city on the Scandinavian Peninsula; it is the center of Norwegian politics, culture, economy and industry. The city was founded around 1050 A.D. by King Harald Hardråde, and it has been taken a huge part in the Norweian history. Oslo is surrounded by the Oslo Fjord, 100km away from the Skagerrak Straits. Oslo is an ice-free port city which means that the harbor never freeze even during the winter.
There are many places you must visit when you visit Oslo. The Royal Palace is one of them. This building is not only the official residence of the royal family but also a symbol of Norwegian history. Since 2002, the palace is opened to the public during the summer season. The tour takes an hour and the visitors need to follow the guide throughout the tour. For this year, 2008, the guided tour opened 21st of June and will be opened until 16th of August. Also, there is a Guard Mounting on 1:30 pm every day in front of the Royal Palace. This ceremony of changing guards lasts about 40 minutes.
Many museums are on located on Bygdoy Peninsula, just 10 minutes away from Oslo City Hall. Unique museums like Viking Ship Museum, Fram Museum and Norwegian Folk Museum should never be missed.
