Organizations of tomorrow are going to be facing multiple and constant challenges. The need to supply workers, customers, and associates with reliable access to data is going to be greater than ever and a constant challenge. The need for data and systems across and entire organization, not just in select sections, is going to be needed. Organizations will rely more heavily on databases to supply the right people with the right information quickly to make important decisions fast and effective. These decisions could be the making or breaking factors for an organization. The access to the right data creates a delicate balance for organizations’ reliability and continuity. As database language becomes more complex and internet speed becoming faster, the future of databases will be faster, easier to manage, and more scalable as ever.
The technology that is the database has not changed much in over 25 years. Databases still have to be filled with information and queried manually when needed.

A concept for the future is called active databases. An active database in the future will be able to automatically store data itself and conduct actions automatically based on its data. A credit card company like Visa would use their massive databases to record the details of their customers’ transactions, and have their databases send them rebates or incentives based on their purchase information. Or if a payment is late, the database would be triggered to send them an automatic email reminder. Another example could be a grocery store.
