Dwight D. Eisenhower
Dwight D Eisenhower was born October 14th 1890, in Denison, Texas. He moved to Albiene, Kansas with his family being the third of 7 sons being raised there for most of his childhood. When he joined the army and was stationed in Texas he met Mamie Geneva Doud and later married her in 1916. Eisenhower was the 34th President of the United States, and a leading American General during his time in the US Army.
In his early Army profession he was not even a well known soldier in the forces. Further in his army career he had many achievements. One of his first major achievements was in WW2 when he commanded the Allied Forces landing in North Africa in November 1942 and on D-Day, 1944, he was Supreme Commander of the troops invading France. After the war he became the president of the University of Colombia , but later left to become supreme commander over the new NATO forces being assembled in 1951, and one year later he ran for president in 1952. During his time in the Whitehouse the United States, was relatively calm and free from the anxiety of war. One of his famous qoutes supports this , "Every gun that is made, every warship launched, every rocket fired, signifies in the final sense a theft from those who hunger and are not fed, those who are cold and are not clothed."(Eisenhower). During his first term he tried to relieve some of the strains of the cold war in the country, and the signing of a true brought peace to the border of south Korea. Eisenhower wanted very much to have peace throughout the world and no war. One attempt in keeping the peace was, he met with Russia and tried to propose an agreement that they would share the blueprints of each others military establishments so that neither country was threatened by the other , but Russia disagreed. In September 1955, Eisenhower suffered a heart attack in Denver, Colorado. After seven weeks he left the hospital, and in February 1956 doctors reported his recovery....
